TERKOWITZ RESIDENCE

PIMMIT RUN, VA | The Terkowitz Garden is organized around a thread of water that winds its way through this two-acre residential site. When the project began, a small tributary draining an upstream watershed had been buried beneath the property. MVLA brought the hidden creek to the surface, revealing a resource that enlivened the garden. The water weaves through a series of step pools and stone runnels, converting a gravel turnaround into a creekside fern glen of native and naturalized perennials and bulbs. Low-tech mechanical devices constructed of on-site materials control the flow of water under varied storm conditions.
