Lily Lake

LILY LAKE

WAPWALLOPEN, PA | Set within the geologic folds of northeastern Pennsylvania, this home augments the rural landscape with a series of restrained interventions that build upon a framework of existing dry-laid walls. A new pond replaces a saturated field while expanding views and drawing in reflected light, particularly in the cooler months when the sun is scarce. Water and plantings weave through creases of the woodlot terrain, improving the site’s drainage. MVLA connects interior architecture to the exterior through specific moments of materiality, such as when a floor of locally quarried bluestone continues seamlessly from a porch to a courtyard. With several details derived from the local craftsmen, this project brings fresh meaning to old traditions.
