COMBS POINT

OVID, NY | This four-season weekend retreat is slipped into a glacial ravine on Seneca Lake in upstate New York. The house, a chain of pavilions, parallels a perennial stream that laces through a rich, forested glen. MVLA worked closely with Bohlin Cywinski Jackson to create outdoor rooms formed by the interplay of existing trees and building walls. The project began with a survey of existing plants that found remarkable diversity in the herbaceous groundcover, which MVLA responded to with comprehensive planting and meadow management plans.  A Cornell University botanist consults with the design team on planting and on-going site work.
