Gannett/USA Today Headquarters    McLean, Virginia

The Gannett/USA Today Headquarters is a corporate campus located at the confluence of the 270 acre Jones Branch watershed in McLean, Virginia. From planning through final design, the project demonstrates principles of sustainability and responsible stewardship. MVLA adjusted the preferred building site from the healthy wooded hilltop to the fill/meadow site below, which preserved the hilltop as an ecological, aesthetic and recreational amenity and resulted in a more cohesive temporal landscape. Angled stone walls terrace the site and direct rainwater through riparian step pools connecting to the forebay and regional stormwater management pond. The design weaves the site structure, plantings and architecture together as one.
