Trinity College Admissions Building and Chapel Quad    Hartford, Connecticut

MVLA's collaboration with Bohlin Cywinski Jackson for the siting of the Admissions building and the design of the Chapel Quad began with a series of studies of campus light character and spatial definition. The building location defines the new Quad and creates the transition between the restrained quiet of the Quad and the active nature of the athletic fields below. The comfort and character of the Quad's dappled light is articulated with the careful addition of new paths, seating areas, and plantings, preserving a pool of bright sunlight at the historic Tower Gate at the campus core. These additions and improvements re-interpret a collection of historic elements into a decidedly modern vocabulary for the new quad.
