St. Mary's College    St. Mary's City, Maryland

St. Mary's College is sited on a Tidewater bluff overlooking St. Mary's River near its confluence with the Potomac in southern Maryland. The core of the College retains much of the beautiful collegiate quality of its 19th century origins. The Historic Core Plan, developed by MVLA with Bohlin Cywinski Jackson Architects, builds on the simple strengths of the Campus, reinforcing its seminal relationship with the river while clarifying the definition of its edges, quads, and gardens. The plan relocates parking and introduces new pathways, sight lines, walls, gates, porches, and plantings. These small moves significantly improve the coherence of the campus and its connection to the riparian landscape that surrounds it.
