BEATA BOODELL CORCORAN

PRINCIPAL

Driven by a need to enhance human experience, engagement, and inclusion, Beata draws inspiration from her urban roots in Chicago. She uses her training in architecture and landscape architecture to shape all aspects of her award-winning work at MVLA.

In her 35 years in the design fields, Beata has worked in positions of design leadership and project management at a variety of scopes and scales, including planning and urban design, cultural and institutional projects, and residential design. Prior to coming to MVLA in 2001, she worked in architecture and landscape, focusing on urban projects and city centers. She refined her interest in both design disciplines as the director of the Mayors’ Institute on City Design for the National Endowment for the Arts, a program emphasizing that physical design is a fundamental tool to positively affect social well-being and economic vitality. During her tenure, she worked with mayors from more than 100 U.S. cities.

Beata is an avid reader with interests in art and cultural history and has a great respect for the learning process. She is an astute critic and has served on design juries at the University of Virginia, Catholic University, and Virginia Tech. Beata has a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University, and Masters in both Landscape Architecture and Architecture from the University of Virginia.
